I remember the first thing I bought when I was pregnant with my rainbow baby—a sweet set of decorative blocks that were possibly the cutest thing I’d ever seen. Immediately after purchasing them, I panicked. “What if he doesn’t come home? What if we never even get to use these?” Part of me felt foolish for buying something for a baby who hadn’t yet arrived, because after two losses, I knew that sometimes babies don’t come home. BUT, those blocks came to symbolize hope. A symbol of what could be. Of what already was. I was carrying a baby who was very much loved, and purchasing something to celebrate that baby felt like a way to honor my sweet baby boy, no matter the outcome of my pregnancy.
Even though my boy is no longer a baby, rainbow-themed clothing and toys continue to seem the appropriate way to honor his life.
I’ll never forget that first purchase I made for him. Maybe you’re ready make a hope-filled purchase for your rainbow baby too. See some of my favorite finds for rainbow babies.
